ADULT AND PEDIATRIC VISION EXAMS

Your vision is one of the most important functions of your body. If your vision is impaired, every little task becomes difficult. Many believe that they do not need to have a vision exam if they “see fine,” but the exact opposite is true. Eye exams are a way of early detection of vision issues – sometimes even before you notice the symptoms. Eye exams are painless, and the doctor will assess both early indications of vision issues and treat any vision impairments with a prescription for glasses and/or contact lenses. The American Optometric Association recommends the following for the best eye health:

Pediatric Eye Exam Guidelines
    • Birth to 24 Months: at 6 months of age
    • 2 to 5 Years: at 3 years of age
    • 6 to 18 Years: Before 1st grade and then every two years thereafter
Adult Eye Exam Guidelines

Total EyeCare Centers recommends that everyone (6 Years and older) needing a glasses change should receive an annual non-dilated examination prior to filling any new prescription.

    • 18 to 60 Years: Every two years a comprehensive dilated examination.
    • 61 and Older: Every year a comprehensive dilated examination.

If you or your child have risk factors including diabetes, a family history of eye disease, prior eye surgery, and other health concerns, more frequent exams may be recommended.

CONTACT LENS EXAMS

The doctors at TotalEyeCare can perform your contact lens exams during the same appointment as your regular eye exam and will determine if you require the use of special contact lenses. Measurements will be taken to determine the curvature of your eye, the size of your pupil and iris, and the vertical and horizontal diameter of your pupil. If it is your first time wearing contact lenses or your prescription has significantly changed, the doctor may have you put in a trial pair of lenses to determine if they are the best for you.

TotalEyeCare
CORNEAL REFRACTIVE THERAPY

For those who experience low levels of near-sightedness, far-sightedness, or astigmatism, corneal refractive therapy may be an option to correct your sight. This therapy involves inserting treatment lenses at bedtime and wearing them overnight. These lenses will gently reshape your corneas while you sleep, which will correct your vision problems and will not require the use of contacts or glasses worn during the day.

TotalEyeCare
